Mid-scale hotels lack tools for real-time dynamic packaging. Study identifies $1.8B revenue opportunity through automated bundling of room, F&B, and ancillary services.
Executive Summary
Dynamic packaging — the real-time bundling of room, dining, spa, activities, and transportation into personalized packages — has been a staple of the airline and OTA industry for years. Yet mid-scale hotels overwhelmingly rely on static, manually created packages. This study quantifies the revenue opportunity and provides a technology roadmap for mid-scale dynamic packaging.
The Gap
Our survey of 340 mid-scale properties (100-250 keys, 3-4 star segment) reveals:
- 87% of mid-scale hotels still use manually created static packages updated quarterly or less
- $1.8B estimated annual revenue opportunity from automated dynamic packaging in the mid-scale segment
- Technology integration — 73% cite PMS/RMS integration complexity as the primary barrier
Technology Requirements
Dynamic packaging requires a middleware layer that connects PMS, RMS, POS, and activities booking systems with real-time inventory and pricing. Rule-based packaging engines can cover 60-70% of use cases; ML-driven engines that optimize package composition based on guest preferences and booking patterns achieve 85-90% conversion.
The mid-scale dynamic packaging gap is one of the most actionable opportunities in hospitality technology. The technology exists; the barrier is integration and organizational readiness.
