Direct Booking Surge

Hotel direct bookings growing 22% YoY driven by loyalty enhancements and rate parity.

Hotel direct booking channels are growing at 22% year-over-year, driven by loyalty programme enhancements, rate parity enforcement, and increasing consumer fatigue with OTA comparison shopping. The shift is most pronounced among loyalty members, who now book directly at 3x the rate of non-members.

The technology enablers behind this surge are well-documented: better website user experience, seamless booking engines, and personalised offers based on guest history. But the structural driver is simpler — hotels are finally offering compelling reasons to book direct, including rate parity guarantees, member-exclusive rates, and flexible cancellation policies that match or beat OTA terms.

The next frontier is post-booking engagement. Hotels that maintain direct communication with guests between booking and arrival — via messaging apps, personalised content, and pre-arrival upsells — report 25% higher ancillary revenue and significantly lower cancellation rates. This relationship layer is something OTAs cannot easily replicate, giving direct booking advocates a durable competitive advantage.
